Upsetters shall be provided with a means for locking out the power at its entry point to the machine and rendering its cycling controls inoperable. If the validation organization has been recognized for more than one year, meets the requirements for expansion of recognition, and there is no evidence that the recognized validation organization has not been following the requirements of this appendix and the letter of recognition, an expansion will normally be granted. (iv) The ram shall be blocked when dies are being changed or other work is being done on the hammer. Guarding Floor and Wall Openings and Holes OSHA Standard 1910.23 2 Overview This is a condensation of Standard 1910.23 of the Occupational Safety and Health Act. Bearings shall be kept in alignment and properly adjusted. b. The records shall include the manufacture and model number of each component and subsystem, the calculations of the safety distance as required by paragraph (h)(9)(v) of this section, and the stopping time measurements required by paragraph (h)(2)(ii) of this section. If no exceptions are filed, this is the final decision of the Department of Labor. If such a guard is constructed of sheet metal, the material used shall be not less than one-sixteenth inch in thickness; and if cast iron is used, it shall not be less than three-sixteenths inch in thickness. Shaft couplings shall be so constructed as to present no hazard from bolts, nuts, setscrews, or revolving surfaces. Without hearing. 2. The certification/validation report shall include the following: b. 2. 1910.4 Amendments to this part. There are other general safety precautions which should be followed by everyone even if they dont work directly with conveyors. (b) The control system shall be designed to permit an adjustment which will require concurrent pressure from both hands during the die closing portion of the stroke. In lieu of such yielding sectional rolls, suitable section kickback finger devices shall be provided at the infeed end. (3) Guards for horizontal overhead belts. (2) Rivet making. The approval of brake monitor adjustments, as required in paragraph (h)(5)(ii), is not considered a recertification, and does not necessarily involve an on-site inspection by a representative of the validation organization. (f) As used in 1910.219, unless the context clearly requires otherwise, the following mechanical power-transmission guarding terms shall have the meaning prescribed in this paragraph. All points not readily accessible shall have oil feed tubes if lubricant is to be added while machinery is in motion. 1910.122 Table of contents. (13) Gate or movable barrier device means a movable barrier arranged to enclose the point of operation before the press stroke can be started. Vertical and inclined shafting seven (7) feet or less from floor or working platform, excepting maintenance runways, shall be enclosed with a stationary casing in accordance with requirements of paragraphs (m) and (o) of this section.
